Juan A. Esteban (Juan Antonio Esteban Ruiz). Artist, cultural mediator and independent researcher. Founding patron and president of Kripties Fundación.
Trained as a painter, holding a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Seville. My current work addresses technology and digital culture without relinquishing the painterly craft.
My work is articulated through Structural Surplus, a theoretical framework that addresses the ontology of art and which, without denying the human subject, displaces its centrality. The hypothesis: art is defined not by the author's consciousness nor by the technical complexity of the device, but by the emergence of structural surplus within open relational systems.
The framework articulates three dimensions of my oeuvre. Artistic production operates with expanded matter, writing, code and found supports, in material pieces of high physical intensity and processual works. Mediation is exercised through Kripties Fundación, TransArte and the Esteban-Ruiz Collection. Research is developed along the lines published on this website.
My digital presence operates deliberately upon decentralised infrastructure (AT Protocol). Certain pieces are also distributed within these environments and are recorded on blockchain when the nature of the work requires it.
